What to expect at your first colon hydrotherapy session
Not knowing what happens is the number one thing that holds people back from booking their first colonic. So here is exactly what a colon hydrotherapy visit at Full Circle Health looks like, minute by minute, written by our certified therapists at our Caringbah and Newport clinics in Sydney. No surprises, no jargon.
It starts with a conversation
Your consultation comes first
Before any treatment, we sit down with you for a private consultation and a short health questionnaire. This is where you tell us your goals, ask anything on your mind, and we confirm colon hydrotherapy is right for you. If you have a health condition you are unsure about, this is exactly the moment to raise it, and it is why we cover who should check with their GP first in our safety guide.
Your first visit is $145 and includes the consultation, your treatment, an infrared sauna session, and a probiotic to take home. You can see the full list on our pricing page.

Minute by minute
A first visit, from start to finish
Most first visits run to about an hour and a half. Here is roughly how the time is spent.
1. Arrival & consultation
You are welcomed into a private, relaxing room, not a clinical, hospital-style space. We go through your questionnaire and talk you through everything that is about to happen, so you are never guessing.
2. Getting settled
You undress privately from the waist down and lie down, comfortably draped throughout the entire session. You are covered the whole time. Nothing is rushed.
3. The treatment (40 to 45 min)
A pencil-thin, single-use tube sits just 3 cm inside the anal opening, which you insert yourself, in private. Warm, purified, temperature-regulated water then flows in gently under gravity and releases naturally. We repeat this several times.
4. Rest & sauna
Afterwards you rest, enjoy your included infrared sauna session, and we give you a probiotic and electrolyte drink before you head home.

The honest bit
What it actually feels like
This is what everyone really wants to know. For most people it feels a lot like a normal bowel movement, just more thorough and usually easier. Some people notice mild cramping, gas or a feeling of pressure as the water moves through and releases. That is completely normal, it passes quickly, and you are in control the whole time.
Your therapist stays with you throughout, adjusts the water flow to your comfort, and can show you a gentle abdominal self-massage that helps. We use a gravity-fed open system rather than a pumped one, which keeps everything gentle and at a safe, regulated temperature. If it is safety and hygiene you are wondering about specifically, we cover that in full in is colon hydrotherapy safe?

How to prepare
No strict preparation is required, but a few small things make your session more comfortable.
- Avoid heavy meals for around 2 hours before your appointment
- Light foods, such as steamed vegetables, soups and smoothies, are ideal in the lead-up
- Aim for 1 to 2 litres of water across the day
- Cutting back on caffeine, alcohol, sugar and processed foods for a few days beforehand can help
- Wear something comfortable and easy to change
- Arrive a little early so you are relaxed, not rushed
First visit vs. ongoing
Your first session is the unfamiliar one
Almost every client tells us the same thing: the first session is the one you build up in your head, and every session after it feels easier, more comfortable, and genuinely relaxing. Once you know what to expect, the nerves disappear.
Because your colon is roughly as long as you are tall, a single session cleanses part of it, not all of it. That is why we usually suggest a short series rather than a one-off. At your consultation we design a plan around your goals, not a fixed schedule everyone gets pushed into.
We see clients from right across Sydney at our two clinics, Caringbah in the Sutherland Shire and Newport on the Northern Beaches.
