How often should you have colon hydrotherapy?
It's the question we hear most at consultation, and the honest answer is: it depends. Anyone who gives you one fixed number for every person is guessing. After more than twenty years in clinic and tens of thousands of colon hydrotherapy sessions, here's how we actually work out a sensible schedule with each client at our Caringbah and Newport clinics.
The honest answer
There is no magic number, and that's a good thing
Your bowel is not the same as anyone else's. Your diet, stress levels, health history and goals aren't either. We've been certified colon hydrotherapists since 2003, and if there were one perfect frequency for everybody, we'd have found it by now. What we can tell you is how we work it out, and the patterns we genuinely see in clinic.
Worked out with you, not for you
What your therapist weighs up at consultation
Your goals
What brought you in matters. Someone wanting a once-off reset before a big event is in a different conversation to someone who wants ongoing support for their general wellbeing routine.
Your diet and lifestyle
Fibre, water, movement and stress all shape how your bowel behaves day to day. Sessions work alongside those things, they don't replace them, so what you eat and how you live changes what a sensible schedule looks like.
How your bowel responds
Your first session tells us a lot. Some people release easily straight away, others take two or three sessions to fully relax into it. We adjust the plan based on what actually happens, not on a chart.
Your health history
Conditions, medications and past surgery all come into it, and sometimes the right answer is a chat with your GP before anything else. Our guide to who should check with their doctor first covers this in detail.
Observation, not prescription
The patterns we actually see in clinic
The most common pattern by far is an initial short series close together, a few sessions spread over a few weeks, then a taper to occasional maintenance visits when the client feels like one. Because your colon is roughly as long as you are tall, a single session cleanses part of it rather than all of it, which is why a short series often makes sense at the start.
Beyond that, people settle into their own rhythm. Some clients come in at the change of each season. Some like a monthly visit as part of their routine. Others book once a year, or only around a cleanse program or a big life event. Many clients tell us they simply feel lighter and brighter afterwards, and they build their timing around that.
To be clear, none of this is a prescription. It's what we observe across two busy clinics, and your own pattern gets worked out with your therapist, then adjusted as you go.

A gut check, literally
A sensible rhythm vs overdoing it
More is not better. Here's how we'd tell the difference.
A sensible rhythm usually looks like
- Sessions spaced out with your therapist's guidance
- Feeling well and comfortable between visits
- Frequency easing off as you reach your goals
- Food, water and movement doing the everyday work
Time to slow down and talk to us if
- You feel you need a session to have a normal bowel movement
- You're booking more often than your therapist suggested
- You're using sessions to make up for a diet you don't want to change
- Anything feels off, in which case see your GP as well
About those packages
Why we sell packages of 3, 6 and 12
Our packages exist because an initial series is the most common way people use colon hydrotherapy, not because everyone should buy twelve sessions. They simply bring the per-session cost down for people who already know they want a series, and you can see all the numbers on our pricing page. If one session turns out to be all you need, that's a perfectly good outcome and we'll say so.
Most people start with the $145 first visit, which includes a consultation, your session, a free infrared sauna and a probiotic. Allow about 90 minutes for that first appointment, and around 45 minutes for the session itself. We've written a full walkthrough in what to expect at your first session.
We see clients from right across the Sutherland Shire, from Cronulla and Gymea through to Sutherland, at our Caringbah clinic, and Northern Beaches locals from Collaroy up to Avalon at Newport.
